Stage 2 excursion - Botanical Gardens Mount Annan

The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan provides students the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal peoples’ use of plants for food and medicine, enjoy fun, hands-on Geography activities and explore the wonderful world of plants with discovery walks.

Students will explore different locations to investigate the natural vegetation and human features of the Botanic Garden. Students will experience a scavenger hunt, an ephemeral mapping activity, shelter building exercise, and use geographical tools to discover environments.

During the learning activities, students will conduct a scavenger hunt to identify natural and human features of the Garden, and how the features are used.

They will use their geographical knowledge of directions to build a shelter using sticks and loose parts. And will also apply geographical tools of inquiry, such as thermometers and anemometers, to measure characteristics of different locations to plan the perfect picnic.
